The Philippine Chess Team continued its winning ways, following up its victory over Tunisia in the third round with a commanding 4-0 sweep of the United Arab Emirates.
The Filipinos delivered a dominant performance across all four boards, leaving little room for the UAE side to mount a comeback.
On Board 1, IM Michael Concho Jr. turned in a convincing performance to defeat IM Al Hosani. IM Paul Bersamina followed suit on Board 2, overcoming Abdulrahman to give the Philippines another full point.
GM Daniel Quizon added to the rout on Board 3 by defeating FM Ammar, while IM Jan Emmanuel Garcia completed the sweep with a victory over CM Laily on the fourth board.
The 4-0 shutout gives the Philippines another valuable victory after its only setback so far came in the second round against powerhouse Azerbaijan.
However, the road ahead is expected to become increasingly difficult. With the Philippines piling up victories, the team is likely to face higher-rated opposition in the succeeding rounds, putting its depth, preparation and resilience to an even greater test.
The Filipinos will now look to carry their momentum into the next battles, where chess giants such as India, China and the United States could await.
For now, the Philippine contingent has sent a clear message: the Filipinos are ready to fight, board by board, against the world’s best.
