Alexandra Eala put on a dominant display at the Cincinnati Open, defeating Elena-Gabriela Ruse to secure a spot in the third round.
Ruse claimed the opening game of the match, but Eala quickly seized control, overwhelming her Romanian opponent with precise baseline striking. The Filipina standout rattled off six consecutive games to claim the opening set 6–1 in lightning-fast fashion.
Eala kept her foot on the gas in the second set, racing to an authoritative 3–0 lead. Ruse’s struggles deepened when she appeared to tweak her ankle mid-set. Shortly after, rain halted play on the court.
When the weather cleared, Ruse was unable to continue and officially retired from the match due to her ankle injury.
With the victory, Eala advances to the third round, where she is slated to face Amanda Anisimova.
